happily ever after? damn you sexist!

Snowy turns 75 today

On 21 Dec 1937, Disney gave the world it's first princess. Oh yes, the hottest by far. I'm being biased here cause i think she's really hot. perfect complexion with a good heart but well ...the voice does sound a lil wee bit annoying. Especially when she sings. Still #1 in my heart tho.

Over the seven decades, Disney gave us quite a new number of princesses. Cinderella, Belle, Princess Jasmine, Ariel etc...If you study the character carefully, you can track the evolution of Disney's Heroines for the past 75 years.

When Snow White was first introduced to the world, she was a reflection of the subservient women of that era. She dreams of being save by a prince charming and wishes to care for him and doing what she knows best cooking, housekeeping, taking care of the kids ..erm i meant dwarfs and perhaps belt out a song once in a while.

Then came Cinderella during the era of WWII, women are more independent and instead of waiting for the prince charming to come rescue him, she did something about it and went to the castle and got herself her man...and after that we have Mu Lan, Pochantos and now the latest addition Merida from Brave as a depiction of empowerment and happiness does not lies in marriage only. Disney's princesses are getting more and more daring and appears to be more determined to have full control of their lives disregarding the old skool stereotype of a princess.

As little princesses around the world watched new installments of Disney's heroines, it's good to know that Disney magically started off this enchanting fairy tales of feminists movement 75 years ago....

Feminist or not i'm still in awe over my hot snowy.....I'll have my dvd ready tonight ..a date!
